Apr 30, 2025    Rhett Barbour

The Jewish nation is preparing for one of their annual festivals while they continue to wait for what Jesus promised them was coming: His Spirit to dwell within them.

Transcript:

Just like Passover week, this is a week of preparation.

Shavuot—the Feast of Weeks—is coming quickly.

Jerusalem is bustling again, filled with pilgrims coming to worship Yahweh in His temple.

They’ve come to remember:

-God’s gift of the Torah to Moses on Mount Sinai.

-His provision through the first fruits of the wheat harvest.

-And the 3,000 ancestors who died after worshiping the golden calf—1,000 years ago.

But the disciples?

They weren’t just anticipating the feast.

They were praying. Waiting. Fervently seeking the promise of God—His Holy Spirit.

Gathered in the upper room, the very place where Jesus washed their feet and spoke of a New Covenant, about 120 faithful followers were focused on one thing.

And it was here—in this moment of expectation—

That God’s promise was fulfilled.

His Holy Spirit came.

Not just for them—but to dwell within us all.
